Children & Young People
Support and counselling for problems and relationships
Relate Solent & Winchester offers counselling for those who are attending City College and Taunton's College in Southampton, and at the Winchester Centre.
An experienced relationship counsellor visits these colleges every week at set times and offers confidential counselling support. Students can ask Student Services Advisors at their college, or phone to talk to our appointments team for more details about how to make an appointment.
During family counselling (please see our 'Families' page) children will often attend with parents or grandparents to discuss concerns.
We also work with children in schools offering anti-bullying and peer mentoring support.
What is counselling for Young People?
Counselling is an opportunity for you to talk about and explore things that may be worrying you.
Most people who seek counselling feel unhappy about some part of their life. Sometimes the reasons can be specific and linked to a particular experience. It may be about family, relationships, loneliness, eating problems, depression, alcohol or drug concerns, hurting yourself or putting yourself at risk.
Sometimes we cannot put a name to how we feel, we know that we feel miserable and that things just don’t feel right. The important thing to remember is that no problem is too big or too small if it is a problem for you. Talking to a counsellor might help.
The service works within the guidelines laid down by Relate and has a strict policy of confidentiality. Your counsellor will explain this to you fully when you first meet and will answer any questions you may have.
